Volunteering FAQ

How do I get started volunteering with Forest Aid?

To get started, take a look at our volunteer calendar of events and select an event that suits your interest and availability. Sign up for the event of your choice by pre-registering (Note: You will be redirected to TreePeople’s site to register). Once you are registered, a confirmation with event details and directions will be sent to you via email.

What if an event is full?

We have received an overwhelming response to Forest Aid.  As a result, we have had to limit the amount of volunteers who participate at each event. If we have more people than we have work, some volunteers may feel their time is not being used effectively. If an event is full, please check to see if another event is available near to the date in which you are interested. If your schedule allows it, please plan ahead.

Can I just show up at a project?

Pre-registration is required for all events. Depending on the location we have to limit volunteer participation to ensure that we have enough tools, equipment and work for all volunteers. If we have too many volunteers, safety and quality becomes an issue.  Please pre-register so that our staff will know how many people to expect and can plan accordingly.

Are minors able to volunteer with Forest Aid?

Volunteer opportunities are available for all ages with a few restrictions. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers over the age of 16 but under the age of 18 must provide a parental consent form to the staff on duty. If a group of minors are volunteering together, we require that each minor provide a parent consent form. Groups of minors must also provide an adult chaperone for every 5-10 volunteers.

Can I receive community service credit for school?

Yes. To receive credit for your volunteer hours, just bring the necessary paperwork with you to the event and our project manager will sign off at the end of your service hours.

Can my group volunteer with Forest Aid?

We have a variety of opportunities for group participation. Please keep in mind that there is limited space at each event. We are happy to arrange a group planting Wednesday thru Sunday for businesses, schools and service organizations. To find a planting day that will accommodate your group, please contact Keith McAleer at volunteer@treepeople.org with your group name, number of people in your group and the date you are interested in.
