From ashes to action

In 2003 and 2007, massive wildfires tore through the Angeles National Forest, razing 185,000 acres of forestland. These devastating fires were driven by forest densification, drought and bark beetle infestation.

According to the local Forest Service, (Forest Service Assessment 2008) 1.5 million new trees need to be planted on 60,000 acres of land ravaged by these wildfires, especially in high need areas. This reforestation is important to water quality in the region and to mitigate erosion and landslides that could impair mountain access.
